چکیده

Due to close proximity urban development, mangroves exposed the contamination of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs). Decabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-209) is one most predominant PBDE congener. The present study aimed investigate toxic effects BDE-209 on antioxidative and non-antioxidative responses Kandelia obovata , a very common mangrove species, under different concentrations BDE-209, 0.1, 1, 5 10 mg l -1 . did not exhibit any negative growth K. seedlings. stimulatory enzymes including superoxide dismutase, peroxidase catalase only occurred in weeks 1 4 diminished week 8. total polyphenols (TP) extractable condensed tannins (ECT) were affected by BDE-209. production O 2 · - was induced at high level (10 ). H treatment. taken up roots translocated above-ground tissues, accumulated plant tissues with declined order root > propagule stem leaf. Although has higher molecular weight log Kow than other congeners, seedlings could absorb, translocate accumulate These findings suggested that plants take up, PBDEs, are less congeners but more difficult be removed systems.

Microbial Electricity Generation Enhances Decabromodiphenyl Ether (BDE-209) Degradation

Due to environmental persistence and biotoxicity of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), it is urgent to develop potential technologies to remediate PBDEs. Introducing electrodes for microbial electricity generation to stimulate the anaerobic degradation of organic pollutants is highly promising for bioremediation. However, it is still not clear whether the degradation of PBDEs could be prom...

Toxic effects of decabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-209) on human embryonic kidney cells

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are widely used as flame-retardant additives in consumer and household products and can escape into the environment over time. PBDEs have become a global environmental organic pollutant due to the properties of persistence, toxicity, and bioaccumulation. The well-studied toxic effects of PBDEs mainly include thyroid hormone disruption and neurotoxicity. Th...

Biodegradation of decabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-209) by a metal resistant strain, Bacillus cereus JP12.

A metal resistant bacterial strain, Bacillus cereus JP12, could use decabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-209) as the sole carbon and energy source for growth in mineral salt medium. Under the conditions of pH 6.0, 30°C, 150 rpm and an inoculum of OD600=0.6, more than 88% of the initial BDE-209 (1mg/L) was degraded after 12 days. The addition of appropriate surfactants and additional carbon sources coul...

Debromination of Decabromodiphenyl Ether (BDE 209) in Human and Fish Liver Microsomes

Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) are flame retardant chemicals that are now considered a new class of persistent organic pollutants. Over the past thirty years, the levels of PBDEs have been increasing rapidly in a variety of environmental compartments and in human tissues (Hites 2004). Presently, two of the three commercial mixtures of PBDEs (pentaBDE and octaBDE) are either banned from ...

Biodegradation of Decabromodiphenyl Ether (BDE-209) by Crude Enzyme Extract from Pseudomonas aeruginosa

The biodegradation effect and mechanism of decabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-209) by crude enzyme extract from Pseudomonas aeruginosa were investigated. The results demonstrated that crude enzyme extract exhibited obviously higher degradation efficiency and shorter biodegradation time than Pseudomonas aeruginosa itself. Under the optimum conditions of pH 9.0, 35 °C and protein content of 2000 mg/L, ...
